About us

Two journeys. One shared purpose.

Natural Aid Australia was created from two journeys and one shared purpose, where Jenny and Victoria's personal stories became the foundation for healing others. Here are their stories.

Jenny MastFounder · Mt Barker, South Australia

For Jenny Mast, everything changed when her father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. As the illness progressed and spread to his bones, the medications meant to help brought their own set of challenges: confusion, disconnection, and side effects that made his final months harder than they needed to be.

Jenny and her husband brought him home and cared for him until the end. In those final days, he held her hand and made a request that stuck with her: "Jen, you've always been interested in natural healing. My dying wish is for you to study natural medicine so that people like me can die with dignity."

One week later she enrolled in a four-year homeopathy program. Since then Jenny has dedicated her life to supporting others in ways she wishes had been available for her dad. Her work has taken her across Australia, China and Sweden, always focused on helping people feel like themselves again.

Victoria came to homeopathy from a different kind of struggle. Since childhood she'd dealt with relentless hay fever and sinus problems. Springtime wasn't a season of renewal, it was a season of pain. By college the swelling around her eyes was so severe she was sent home from classes. Doctors couldn't offer more than temporary fixes.

One day someone suggested she see a homeopath. Victoria was skeptical but willing to try something different. The homeopath listened carefully and offered support that felt personal. Within weeks her symptoms were improving. Within months they were gone.

That experience was a turning point. She enrolled in training, got her first remedy kit, and now works with people of all ages, including children, with a special focus on emotional and physical stress.

Homeopathy is built on a powerful idea: "like cures like." A substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person may, when given in a micro-dose, trigger the body to correct those same symptoms in someone unwell.

This principle, the Law of Similars, has been around since the 1700s, discovered by German physician Samuel Hahnemann. He believed medicine should support the entire person, emotionally, mentally and physically, not just silence one symptom.

Can Natural Aid remedies be taken with conventional medicine?

Yes, in fact Natural Aid medicines can complement conventional medicines. Since our active ingredients are very low dosages, it is not likely that they will intervene with any other form of medication.

How often should I take the natural medicines for?

Natural Aid medicines should be taken only whilst symptoms are present. Once the symptoms have subsided, you can reduce the dosage and/or stop it.

How quickly do Natural Aid medicines work?

It depends on the condition of the person. When a child is given Calming Spray they can get results within minutes, whereas someone with a chesty cough for a few days may need several days for all the symptoms to subside.

Can I use more than one Natural Aid medicine at a time?

Yes you can, as long as there is an hour difference between the two different natural medicines.

Can breastfeeding mothers use Natural Aid medicines?

There has been no evidence of breastfeeding mothers or babies being harmed by homeopathic medicine; in fact some practitioners advise the mother to take the remedy for their child whilst breastfeeding, as the child receives the effects via the breast milk.

Are there any dairy or wheat products in the medicines?

There are no dairy or wheat ingredients used in any of our medicines.

Do any of the products contain gluten?

There is no gluten in any of the Natural Aid products.

What's the best way to use Natural Aid medicines?

In acute cases, repeat the medicine more often. Oral sprays should be sprayed under or directly onto the tongue; pillules should be placed under the tongue and held for 30 seconds. Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, strong perfumes and household chemicals.

What if there is no effect with the Natural Aid product?

Natural Aid products are formulated for acute conditions only. If there is no effect at all, contact us to discuss your symptoms, as you will likely need constitutional treatment with one of our qualified homeopathic practitioners.

Does Natural Aid deliver internationally?

Yes, we do. Some countries have specific regulations and import duties, so it is important to contact your local customs office for further information.

Some say homeopathy is faith healing?

Homeopathy is not faith healing. It has been clinically shown to be effective for those who do not believe in it, and babies, domestic and wild animals respond to homeopathy, proving it is more than a placebo effect.

Is homeopathy against modern medicine and surgery?

Antibiotic resistance is a real concern, and homeopathy can play a role in lessening unnecessary antibiotic use. Surgery has its place; we advocate homeopathy to complement conventional medicine before and after surgery.

Walk into the bush before sunrise and you will see it happen. A calendula bud, tight as a fist through the cold night, begins to loosen. Nothing forces it. There is no wind, no hand, no heat yet. Only a film of dew and the first grey light, and by the time the sun clears the ridge the flower is fully open.

Barnaby likes to point this out to the joeys. "The morning dew opens the toughest flower without breaking a single petal." It is his whole philosophy in one sentence, and it is ours too.

Skin that has been burnt, scratched, bitten or rubbed raw does not need to be attacked with something harsh. It needs the conditions for repair. The origins of homeopathy

A bark, a bitter cup, and a quiet idea.

In 1790, in a small study in Saxony, a disillusioned doctor swallowed a spoonful of the medicine he was translating and changed the way part of the world thinks about healing. This is the story of how homeopathy began, and why it still matters two centuries on.

I. The doctor who stopped practising

Samuel Hahnemann walked away from medicine.

Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann was born in Meissen in 1755, the son of a porcelain painter, and qualified as a physician in 1779. He was brilliant, restless and fluent in a dozen languages, and within a few years of practising he had grown sick at heart of the medicine of his day. Bloodletting, purging, blistering and heroic doses of mercury and arsenic left his patients weaker than their illnesses did.

So he stopped. To feed his growing family he turned to translating medical texts, and it was in that quiet work, rather than at a bedside, that the idea arrived.

II. The cinchona experiment, 1790

Like cures like.

Translating William Cullen's Materia Medica, Hahnemann came to the entry on Peruvian bark, cinchona, the source of quinine and the standard treatment for malaria. Cullen explained its power by its bitterness. Hahnemann didn't believe it; plenty of bitter things did nothing for fever. So he did something few physicians of the age would have thought to do. He took the medicine himself, in health, and watched.

Within hours he felt the chills, the thirst, the flushed heat and the aching limbs of an intermittent fever. When he stopped, the symptoms faded. When he took the bark again, they returned. A substance that could cause the picture of malaria in a healthy person, it seemed, could relieve it in a sick one.

"Similia similibus curentur." Let like be cured by like.

It was not an entirely new thought. Hippocrates had written of it, and so had Paracelsus. But Hahnemann was the first to test it, patiently, on himself and then on volunteers, one substance at a time, recording every symptom. He called these trials provings, and they became the foundation of a new materia medica.

III. The softest touch

Smaller doses, stronger effects.

The early remedies were harsh. Many of the substances Hahnemann tested were poisons in ordinary amounts, and even where they worked, patients suffered an initial aggravation before they improved. His answer was to dilute, and then to dilute again, shaking the vial vigorously between each step, a process he called potentisation.

What he found ran against every instinct of the age: the more he diluted, the gentler and, in his patients' experience, the more precise the remedies became. The thunderstorm gave way to the morning dew. In 1810 he set the whole system down in the Organon of the Healing Art, a book still in print, and gave it a name from the Greek: homoios, similar, and pathos, suffering.

IV. Out into the world

From a Saxon study to 250 million people.

1755Meissen, Saxony

Samuel Hahnemann is born. He will qualify in medicine in 1779 and, disillusioned, largely abandon practice within a decade.

1790The cinchona proving

Translating Cullen, Hahnemann takes Peruvian bark himself and observes the symptoms of intermittent fever. The principle of similars is born.

1796The first essay

He publishes "Essay on a New Principle for Ascertaining the Curative Powers of Drugs", the paper generally taken as the birth of homeopathy.

1810The Organon

The first edition of the Organon of the Healing Art sets out the system. Hahnemann will revise it five more times over his life.

1831Cholera in Europe

Homeopaths report markedly lower death rates during the cholera epidemics, and the approach spreads rapidly through Germany, Austria, France and Britain.

1835Paris

Hahnemann marries the painter Mélanie d'Hervilly and moves to Paris, where he practises to a crowded waiting room until his death in 1843.

1869Australia

The Melbourne Homoeopathic Hospital is founded, one of the first in the southern hemisphere, and homeopathy takes root in the colonies.

1991Mt Barker, South Australia
